Preparation & RYA/MCA Yachtmaster® Offshore Exam

Perfect your skippering skills and become a qualified RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshorer

Preparation: 5 days intensive, advanced level repetition to sharpen up your skills before taking your RYA/MCA Yachtmaster® Offshore Exam. Since you’re already a competent and experienced skipper there won’t be much teaching. Instead, one of our senior instructors will coach you and give feedback. You’ll be put through your paces and practice pilotage, night navigation, close quarters manoeuvring under power as well as under sail and any other areas that need brushing up.

Required pre-exam experience: 50 days sea time, 5 days as skipper, 2500 miles, 5 passages over 60 miles including 2 overnight and 2 as skipper.

Exam: A qualified RYA Yachtmaster Examiner independent of our Training Centre will give you the chance to demonstrate that you are a competent skipper of an offshore cruising yacht. You should be prepared to answer questions on any part of the syllabus of any RYA Sail Cruising course (except Yachtmaster Ocean) and you are expected to show competence based on broad experience. Prove that you can take full responsibility for the management of the yacht, the crew and the passages. Demonstrate that you as a skipper are familiar with the handling and other characteristics of any vessel you take to sea.

Required pre-exam certificates: Restricted Radio Operator’s Certificate and First Aid Certificate.

Duration:
5 days Preparation directly followed by 2 days (5-12 hours per candidate) Examination.
